Ms. Sara has joined Black Bear Academy from The Sunshine State. She attended the University of Florida for her undergraduate studies and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology as she gained clinical experience at Shands Hospital in behavioral therapy, Parent-Child Interaction Therapy and Child-Directed Interaction Therapy for children diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. She has also worked at Baby Gator Child Development and Research Center with children ages six weeks to six years. Sara has experience in other academic and non-academic settings such as Camp Boggy Creek for children with serious illnesses, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Mid-Florida, the Boys and Girls Club of Alachua county, and as an English Teacher at Salehin, Taghva and Behesht Bilingual schools in Iran.
She is currently in school to obtain a Master’s degree in Special Education and Learning Behavior Specialist Certification at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Sara is part of the Therapeutic Enrichment Team and Academy Arts Program. She has attended workshop presentations and training for Smart Board, The Breakthrough to Literacy and Wright Group Literacy Programs, Phonemic Awareness, Epilepsy, Gross Motor and Neuro-Motor Skills, Sensory Integration Disorder, Theory of Mind, Child Development birth to six years of age, Feeding and Speech, Stranger Anxiety and Redirection, Exploration vs. Correctness, Fostering children’s independence in the classroom, Developmental Assessments, Case Studies and CPR training. Sara is very excited to be here!
