Katie Fielden joined the Black Bear Staff in August 2009 and is in her second year of teaching Junior Kindergarten. Katie attended Miami University of Ohio where she studied Early Childhood Education. While in college she attended a semester study abroad program in Luxembourg where she traveled Europe and was able to visit European classrooms. Upon graduating in 2009, Katie received a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education and is certified to teach pre-kindergarten through third grade. Katie has had previous teaching experience in an inclusive first grade classroom where she gained experience in differentiating instruction to meet each individual child’s needs. Before moving to Chicago, Katie volunteered as a literacy tutor for elementary school children and has been a full time nanny in previous summers. Katie believes in incorporating a hands-on approach to learning and is bringing this belief into her classroom instruction.
While at Black Bear, Katie has continued her education by attending the NAEYC(National Association for Education of Young Children) Opening Minds conference where she gained knowledge and ideas to bring into her classroom. Additionally, Katie has been apart of several training sessions at Black Bear including topics such as Smartboard Use, Music and Theatre for Preschoolers, Breakthrough to Literacy, and a Team Building training. These opportunities presented Katie with a wide variety of information pertaining to Black Bear and your children.
Katie is so excited to be in her third year of Junior Kindergarten and is looking forward to a great year at Black Bear Academy!
