Amy joined the Black Bear staff in September of 2006 as a Teaching Assistant. She attended Eastern Illinois University receiving her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education in December, 2003. During college she enjoyed working with children in an after school tutoring program, as well as supporting the local reading initiative through volunteer work. She completed her student teaching in a second grade classroom at Deen Street Elementary in Woodstock, Illinois.
After working at a daycare center for a year, Amy moved to Chicago and joined the staff at Black Bear. Next year, Amy is teaching the Senior Kindergarten program for the fourth year after contributing to the start of the Introduction to Kindergarten Ideas class and teaching Junior Kindergarten. She has also been excited to take on the role of academic coordinator. She has done an outstanding job and is loved by students, families, and staff.
As part of continuing education, Amy has attended the Learning and the Brain conference in Boston, the NAEYC conference for Early Childhood Teachers for the past two years, Smart Board training, Breakthrough to Literacy Training, Team Building Training, and Music and Theater for Preschool Training. She recently received her Masters degree in Reading at National Louis University. We look forward to her creative ideas, her excellence in the classroom, and her warm and caring personality at all times.
