Melanie has been teaching at Black Bear for a year, and is the first art teacher Black Bear has had. She teaches during the morning classes as well as afternoon electives, and extended day art. Melanie graduated from Northern Illinois University in December of 2007 with a degree in Art Education. She student taught at Barrington High School and Eisenhower Junior High School in the northwest suburbs.
Before her time at Northern, she worked for a company called Young Rembrandts where she taught extracurricular art classes ranging from first grade through sixth grade. Melanie has also taught swimming lessons, dabbled as a family photographer, worked as a day care assistant, and worked on the wait staff at several restaurants. In her free time Melanie enjoys making her own art, and playing guitar.
