Karen Galway
Karen grew up in Newfoundland, Canada and completed her Bachelor's degree at Acadia University in Nova Scotia.   Upon her completion of her Bachelor?s degree, Karen worked as an Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA) therapist for two boys with Autism under the direction of a Speech-Language Pathologist.  In 2001, Karen came to Illinois to obtain her Masters degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Western Illinois University.  Karen joined Clinical Assist in October 2004.  During this time she gained exposure to a variety of pediatric programs since joining Clinical Assist, including a pediatric brain injury program, a school for autism, as well as an outpatient pediatric clinic.  Karen has a strong interest in children with autism, sensory integration disorders, feeding aversions, and motor planning dysfunction.  Since joining Black Bear in August, 2006 Karen has contributed her clinical knowledge towards the therapeutic program including aiding the formation of the Kindergarten Prep program.  In addition, she has taught the majority of the therapeutic programs and continues to collaborate with both of the therapeutic and academic teams to maximize each student?s potential.   Karen has attended several continuing education courses since becoming a team member at Clinical Assist.  These courses include Management of Pediatric Dysphagia, Apraxia of Speech versus Phonological Processing Disorders in Children, and Introduction to PROMPT.  Karen has demonstrated both clinical and administrative integrity and has recently been promoted to the new position of Therapeutic Transition Coordinator.  We are very proud of Karen and welcome her continued contribution to Black Bear as our new Transition Coordinator.   Additionally, Karen will be joining her colleagues in Boston as they attend the Neurology of Learning at Harvard University.
