Julie is looking forward to her second year as a member of the Therapeutic Enrichment Team at Black Bear. Julie was born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland and moved to Chicago in 2017. Julie received her first bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Salisbury University but soon realized her true passion lied in speech-language development. She then completed post-bacheloreate coursework and received her second bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology from Towson University. Having grown up with a brother on the Autism Spectrum, Julie’s passion for working in therapeutic settings has been life-long. She has gained experience working in school, clinic, and in-home settings as a registered behavior technician and therapeutic paraprofessional. Julie has three years of experience in applied behavior analysis and has incorporated a variety of speech-language development tools into therapy sessions with clients. Julie loves building relationships with children and helping them reach developmental milestones. She is also trained in Safety Care, feeding therapy, and Natural Environment Teaching through play.

This past year, Julie worked within each of the therapeutic classrooms and across each age and ability level. The level of collaboration and communication among the therapeutic team really creates a whole-child approach, and Julie looks forward to helping each student reach their highest potential in the upcoming year.

In her free time, Julie loves exercising, cheering on the Baltimore Orioles and Ravens, exploring Chicago, and spending time at the beach with family. She is looking forward to another wonderful year with all of Black Bear’s students and families!
