Alyssa Sellitti Totera joined the Pre-Academic and Therapeutic Enrichment Teams in August 2012. While at BBA, she led and assisted the 2-Hour 2s and 3-Hour 2s and also assisted in many of the therapeutic classrooms; such as, Language & Engagement, Language Play, Social Language, and Kindergarten Prep. In August 2014, Alyssa, her husband, and their dog packed up their life in Chicago and moved 5,000 miles away to Switzerland. During her time in Switzerland, she was able to fully immerse herself into the Swiss culture, French language, and slow-paced lifestyle. She traveled through Europe often, hiked the Swiss Alps, and made many wonderful friends and memories.
Alyssa grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in a suburb right outside of the city. She graduated with University Honors from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh in 2011 with a B.S in Psychology. At CMU, Alyssa worked in an infant cognition lab, where she conducted habituation and toy studies on children three- to twenty-six months. She also has extensive experience working with children of all ages at different childcare facilities on campus, throughout the Pittsburgh area, and as a full-time nanny. In 2012, Alyssa finished her Post-Baccalaureate in Communication Sciences and Disorders at the University of Pittsburgh. While studying at Pitt, Alyssa had the opportunity to shadow various Speech-Language Pathologists at the Children’s Institute of Pittsburgh and the Eye and Ear Institute at UPMC Presbyterian. When Alyssa was at BBA, she attended the NAEYC Conference of Chicago, where she had the privilege to visit many beneficial workshops. These seminars allowed her to integrate several concepts into her own classroom; and consequently, she prepared and organized activities that were designed to promote each child’s overall development and also reinforced the necessity of sensory exploration.
Alyssa rejoined the BBA team in January 2017, where she worked in the 18-30 Month and 2-Hour 2s classrooms. This fall, Alyssa will be assisting in the 18-30 Month and the 3-Hour 3s classes. She is so excited to meet all of the new children and is looking forward to another great year at BBA!
